India 2012 Public Holidays & Bank Holidays
As a multicultural and multi-religious country, India celebrates holidays and festivals of various religions. Most of the India 2012 public holidays and 2012 bank holidays are religious holidays, with only three nationally celebrated secular public holidays: Republic Day, Independence Day, and the Gandhi Jayanti.
Each state and region has local festivals depending on prevalent religious and linguistic demographics of the population in that region.
Popular religious festivals which are celebrated almost across all parts of India include Hindu festivals of Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Dussehra and the Islamic festivals of Eid ul-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Mawlid an-Nab.
Sikh festivals such as Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Christian festivals such as Christmas, Good Friday and Jain festivals like Mahavir Jayanti, Paryushan are celebrated in many areas where these religions have a significant followings.

Islamic New Year (1st of Moharrum) holiday given in Middle East (majorly Gulf) differs from the Moharrum (10th day of Moharrum, 10 days after Islamic New Year) holiday given elsewhere, including, India, South Asia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Behrain, Yemen, etc.. since the Islamic New year is a celebration (or simply nothing!) where as Moharrum as in other places is commomeration of the martydom of IMAM HUSSAIN (A.S.), which is a mourning period. Also please rectify the date for Moharrum holiday mentioned for the above mentioned countries (India etc) as falling around 25th of Nov ’11.
Thanks for the information. 10th of Moharrum holiday has been added as Ashura Day.
