Komodo National Park – The Habitation for the Largest Lizards in the World

Komodo National Park as the original habitation of Komodo Dragon is located in the center southern of Indonesian archipelago. Consisting of three main islands – Komodo, Rinca, and Padar – Komodo National Park becomes more and more famous these days due to the nomination of this natural park as one of the new seven wonders of nature. Aside from Komodo, many other rare species like fowl, scarce rat, and deer also live in this wildlife nature.

The Waters around Komodo National Park

The waters surrounding Komodo National Park is as wonderful as the land with about a thousand species of fish, hundreds types of coral-reef, and several tens of sponges lie inside them. The rare ones including Dugong (a large marine mammal also called as the Steller’s sea cow), whales, dolphins, and manta rays also make the waters around the Komodo National Park as their habitation. For this reason, Komodo National Park also becomes one popular diving spot where divers consistently dive every year.

The main attraction of Komodo National Park is off course the Komodo itself. Many people call these ancient creatures as Komodo Dragon because their appearance are clearly resembling one. It is the biggest species of lizards in the world with the maximum length of 3.5 meters and weight up to 150 kilograms. In Komodo National Park, visitors are able to see Komodo Dragons lying freely inside the area of the park. It is in fact quite scary, but visitors no need to worry since the handlers are ready to handle these gigantic creatures in case that they do something threatening. Some rules are imposed to ensure the safety of the visitors including not to wear red clothes, not in the state of wounded, and special for women, not having the period. This rules are carried out since Komodo is very sensitive with the red color and the smell of blood.

Above all, visiting Komodo National Park brings the visitors back to the nature and feels the real ferocity of the wildlife reserve.
