Ramadhan 2010
We are now halfway into the Ramadhan 2010, the month of Fasting for the Muslims around the world, including in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines.
What is Ramadhan?
Ramadhan is the 9th month according to the Islamic calendar, holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Around the world, Ramadhan 2010 is also known as Ramadan 2010, Ramazan 2010, Ramzan 2010, Ramdan 2010, or Ramadaan 2010.
Ramadhan or Ramadan 2010 is the Islamic month of fasting, in which Muslims around the world observe Puasa (Fasting) from dawn to sunset, which means that every day during this month, Muslims spend the daylight hours in a complete fast, refraining from eating, drinking, that is in excess or ill-natured. Because of that, Ramadhan 2010 is also referred to as Puasa 2010 or Fasting Month 2010.
When is Ramadhan 2010?
Ramadhan 2010 started on 11 August 2010, and will end somewhere around 9 September 2010. Please note that the Ramadhan date is based on moon sighting, thus the exact date will be determined and announced by the Islamic authority on the day itself. Ramadhan 2010 will then be proceeded with Lebaran 2010 / Hari Raya Idul Fitri (Aidil Fitri) 2010. It is however not a confirmed date, since only the Muslim organization in each particular country can declared the exact date of the festival, based on moon sighting.
South East Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei generally share common dates for Bulan Ramadhan / Puasa and Hari Raya Idul Fitri, however other countries might celebrate the festivals on slightly different day since it is based on moon sighting on each particular country.
