Bugis is a must-see for local and international shoppers alike. Once the place where sailors, hawkers and transvestites came together for wild nights, this fashionable shopping and entertainment area still maintains the spirit of a traditional open market or bazaar with cobblestone streets and glass shelters as food hawkers cry out their wares.

There are dozens of main shopping centres in this region: Beach Centre, Bras Basah Complex, Bugis Village, Burlington Square, Chijmes, Fortune Center, Fu Lu Shou Complex, Golden Landmark Shopping Complex, IOI Plaza, OG Albert Complex, Paradiz Centre, Parco Bugis Junction, Raffles Hotel Arcade, Rochor Centre, Shaw Leisure Gallery, Shaw Tower, Sim Lim Square, Sunshine Plaza and The Bencoolen. There is absolutely no way to view it all in one day. Bugis has hotel and guesthouses for those who need a few more days to see it all (as if that were possible).

Just as in early days, the pharmacists and physicians provide care for shoppers in need of aid. For your convenience, shops such as Guardian, NTUC Healthcare and Watson are available. For the mother-to-be, you absolutely must give time for The Natural Source, Mothercare and Marton Belle.

Food and beverage are available in every price range on Bugis. Zam Zam, Sajis Indian Food and the Golden Mile Claypot Rice can feed you for next to nothing. The Seafood Harvest Restaurant and Le Pont de Vie cost a little more but offer sumptuous meals. Olive Tree offers top shelf meals for those with some more cash. For a cocktail and a relaxed atmosphere, try the Blu Jaz Café. If you prefer more adventure, try the RedBar, with its California flavor.

Whatever you may be shopping for, the Bugis area has it all. You will feel transported to ancient Singapore while enjoying all the contemporary conveniences imaginable. You can find every sort of service imaginable: financial, medical, educational, social or spiritual. The New Creation Church provides services at the ROCK Auditorium. The Star Factory can keep you entertained for hours. Ready for more shopping? Jewellery, gifts, home furnishings, fashion and electronics are all in abundance.

Home furnishings of every possible kind can be found while shopping Bugis Street. The Living Tree Gallery, Moss Living and Christopher Noto are worth tracking down and browsing. The Shophouse, Marquez Living and Origin Asia can all help decorate your home in your own distinctive style.

Jewellery and fashions accessories are everywhere you go on Bugis. Je Taime Jewellers, Chopard and Chew Cheong Jewellery & Gems all offer brilliant choices and an ample selection. The Flower Diamond Boutique is my personal favorite. For your costume and fancy attire needs, there are various places to look, including No. 1 Costume, Masquerade, Theatre De La Mode and Costume City.

In addition, to American favorite Border’s Books & Music, you can get almost any book, comic, newspaper or magazine under the sun somewhere on Bugis. There’s Page One, Popular Book Company, Thambi Magazine Store and Basheer, to name a few.

World famous fashion sellers include GUESS, Nike, Levi’s, Esprit, Converse, Timberland, North Face and Ocean Pacific. Gifts, novelties and souvenirs abound at every turn. Recommendations include Euro Delights in Suntec City, The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store in Raffles City and Gift A Name in Bugis Junction. The little stands that pepper the area are worth the walk. There is no telling what little treasures you may find.

For the electronics aficionado, the Bugis area has no match. Recommendations include Harvey Norman in Raffles City, Video Pro & Broadcast in Sim Lim Square and Aigo in Suntec City. Of course, the list is too long to print here. Children’s wear, toys and maternity products are present at ELM Tree in Suntec City. CrossCom, your Posture Engineer, also in Suntec City, must be included in your shopping plans and LEGO Wear in Raffles City is just what you need for the most up to date fashions for children.

Comfortable shoes and some days are what  needed to do justification to the shopping experience available on Bugis.
