Mid Autumn Festival (also known as Mooncake Festival or Chinese Lantern Festival) dates back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China’s Shang Dynasty. It was first called Zhongqiu Jie (literally “Mid-Autumn Festival”) in the Zhou Dynasty. In Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines, it is also sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival or as other call it the Moon Festival is celebrated annually on the 15th day of the 8th month and is the third major festival of the Chinese Lunar calendar. The Chinese believe that on that day the moon is on its biggest, brightest and roundest state. This implies a family reunion aura for the Chinese, thus the festival is a time for the members of the family to get together. Sons and daughters bring their respective family back to their parents’ house and enjoy a much deserved family dinner, good conversations and lots of good luck. More >
